Editing Images – Help Docs https://kb.lesjardinsdorval.com Knowledge base Mon, 03 Jan 2022 20:17:20 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.2.2 Edit Images https://kb.lesjardinsdorval.com/knowledge-base/edit-images/ Tue, 09 Apr 2019 21:35:43 +0000 http://146.66.103.28/~strathal/kb/?post_type=ht_kb&p=86 This article explains how to edit images with both the built-in WordPress image editor and a plugin that provides further options.

The built-in image editor that gives you the ability to crop, resize, change the orientation orientation and aspect ratio.  For more info about how to edit the images with the built-in editor, check out this video.

The advanced editor gives you the ability to do all of the above tasks and more – enhance, add effects, frames and stickers, crop, resize, change orientation, focus, brightness, saturation, warmth, sharpness, whiteness, add text, draw, remove blemishes, etc.   For more info about how to use some of these features, watch this video.  (Excuse the music.)

To get to the editor, upload the image and then go to Media > Library in the left-hand navigation. On the main library page you will see blue buttons beside each of the images to “Edit Photo”.  Click the button and the plugin will launch.

Once you are done making all of your changes, click the “Save” button.  Saving the graphic will make a copy of the original, so you don’t have to worry about overwriting your original image.

Photo Sizes https://kb.lesjardinsdorval.com/knowledge-base/photo-sizes/ Tue, 09 Apr 2019 21:10:05 +0000 http://146.66.103.28/~strathal/kb/?post_type=ht_kb&p=84 This article contains the correct images sizes for all of the graphics on the website. Please use these sizes when creating images for the site.

Modify the Image Size

If you do not have Photoshop or an equivalent editor, we would suggest you use Pixlr, which is a free online photo editor. You may need to do two things to get the images the correct size… 1. resize the image, and/or 2. adjust the canvas. An explanation of both can be found here. And you can find a more in-depth tutorial on how to change the canvas size here.

Home Page Header Image

1920 pixels width x 1026 pixels height

Inside and Store Header Images

1920 pixels width x 820 pixels height

The store logos are used in various places on the site. To make the management of them easier, please make all logos the same size. The logos should be centered (horizontally and vertically) on a background that is 220 pixels width x 114 pixels height. It is important that all Store logos are on a transparent background. Transparent PNGs are best.

Add Image Accessibility https://kb.lesjardinsdorval.com/knowledge-base/image-accessibility/ Tue, 09 Apr 2019 22:45:36 +0000 http://146.66.103.28/~strathal/kb/?post_type=ht_kb&p=391 In order to make the site more accessible for people who are visually impaired, all images need to have alternative text or “alt text” that describes the image.

In WordPress it is easy to add alternative text.  When you are uploading the photo, all you need to do is enter your description of the image in the “Alt Text” field under the photo. (Here is an article that explains how to write good alt text descriptions.)

If you don’t remember to enter in the alt tag, the site’s accessibility plugin will give you a very big reminder!  If this happens simply delete both images and insert your image again with the alt tag to make the reminder go away.
